I considered this an interesting match, parting from the records of the two players, the youth and strength of Wozniacki, and the experience of Francesca Schiavone in almost eleven years of Grand Slams in her professional career. However; Wozniacki won over Schiavone and has reached the Semifinals of this Australian Open 2011.
Being the number one of the world in ranking with just 19 years old is definitely not an easy task. Caroline Wozniacki started to play tennis at the age of 7 years old, and turned PRO at her 15th. She has participated in many tournaments during her career, and actually has 12 WTA Tour single titles. She also shares 2 WTA Tour Doubles titles; Memphis 2009 with Victoria Arazenka and Beijing 2008 with Medina Garrigues. She is coached by her father Piotr and by Morten Christensen at National Tennis Center in Denmark. Caroline debuted in 3 of the 2007 Grand Slams; the French Open (1r), Wimbledon (2r) and US Open (2r), her ranking was 237 at the time. Right now, she is the number #1 of the world, and she only needed to defeat Schiavone in the Quarterfinals to keep her ranking. Her current opponent for the semifinals will be Na Li from China.
About Na Li, she plays tennis since the 9 years old and started her career on 1996 playing her first event at the ITF/Beijing-CHN. While she stopped in 1997-98, she came back in 1999 as a Pro with more strength and won three events on singles, and eight in doubles on ITF circuits.
She only has 4 WTA Tour singles titles and 2 WTA Tour Doubles titles. Her actual rank is #11, and started with #363. Her first participation in a Grand Slam was in 2005 Australian Open and got to the 3rd round. In 2010 she got to the SF for the first time but lose against Serena Williams. Na Li is coached by her husband and her fitness trainer.
Na Li defeated Andrea Petkovic in the Quarterfinals with 6-2 and 6-4. Now she is in SF again and will face Caroline Wozniacki to reach the final of the Australian Open.
Something of note; with the Williams sisters out of the tournament due to injures, there will be new faces in the SF and the final. With high possibilities; I think Vera Zveranova and the supermom Kim Clijsters will be playing in the SF. I foresee a final with Kim Clijsters and Caroline Wozniacki. It will be like a clash of titans…or Goddesses at this case.
